Privacy policy

Recess Chat is a live-chat app for Skool communities. This policy explains what information we collect, why we have it, and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@recesschat.com.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up we store your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes.
Community membership. Community owners import or sync their member list (names and email addresses) from their Skool group so the right people can get into the right chat. We store only what the owner provides.
Chat content. The messages, photos, reactions, threads and other content you post are stored so members of your community can see them. Photos are kept in private storage and shown only through short-lived links to signed-in members of your community.
Notification settings and activity. We store your notification preferences, read status and similar settings so the app works the way you left it.
Technical data. Like most web apps, we keep basic logs needed to run and secure the service.
How we use information
We use your information to run the chat service, show you the right communities and messages, send sign-in links, confirmation emails and notification emails you have opted into, keep communities private to their members, and provide support. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your conversations to train AI models.
AI features
Recess Chat offers an optional AI search over your community's messages. When you use it, messages your account can already read are sent to our AI provider to answer your question. Community owners can turn AI search off for their community.
Who can see your conversations
Messages are visible only to members of the community they were posted in. Community owners and admins can see the conversations and member list of their own community. Our team can access data only when needed to run the service, provide support you asked for, or comply with the law.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run Recess Chat: our cloud hosting and database provider (which also handles accounts and email), an AI provider for the optional AI search, and email delivery for messages like sign-in links and notifications. Community owners may connect their own Zapier account to sync members from Skool; those transfers are controlled by the owner.
Emails we send
Account emails (sign-in links, email confirmation) are sent when needed. Notification emails — for example when someone tags you while you are away — are sent only if you have them turned on, and you can switch them off anytime on your profile page under Notifications. You can also reply to any notification email to reach us.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time by contacting support@recesschat.com or asking your community owner to remove you. When your account is deleted, your profile is removed and your messages are anonymised or deleted. Community owners can delete their community, which removes its channels and messages. Backups may take up to 30 days to clear.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Email us at support@recesschat.com and we will help. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Recess Chat is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their information. Community owners are responsible for their members meeting the age requirement.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we will update this page and change the date above. For material changes we will also notify community owners by email.
