Terms of service

Last updated: October 5, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Recess Chat ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you use Recess Chat as a member of someone else's community, your community owner may also have rules for that community.

What Recess Chat is

Recess Chat provides real-time chat for communities — channels, threads, reactions, images, notifications and search. Courses, calendars, payments and other community features stay with Skool; we only provide the chat. We are an independent product and are not affiliated with or endorsed by Skool.

Accounts

You need an account to use the app. Keep your password safe and tell us right away if you think someone else is using your account. You must give accurate information, and you must be old enough to use the service under your local law (at least 13, and older where required).

Access to a community's chat requires membership. Community owners decide who is in their community — typically by syncing their Skool member list or approving applications.

Community owners

If you create a community on Recess Chat, you are its owner. Owners are responsible for their community: who is a member, which Skool group it is connected to, the content members post, and complying with the law. Owners must only add members who have agreed to be contacted, and must remove members who leave their Skool group. Owners may connect a Zapier account to keep their member list in sync; how they configure that is up to them.

Creating communities may be limited by the owner's plan. Paid tiers are purchased through our Skool group, and payments for those tiers are handled on Skool — not by us.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• post unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or infringing content;
• impersonate others or post someone's personal information without permission;
• spam, phish, or send unsolicited advertising;
• try to access communities, messages or accounts that are not yours;
• scrape, resell or overload the service;
• use the service to break the law or the rules of the Skool community it belongs to.

We can remove content, suspend accounts or remove communities that break these rules.

Your content

You keep the rights to what you post. You give us the limited licence needed to store and display your content to members of your community, and to back it up and process it as described in our privacy policy. You are responsible for the content you post and for having the right to share it.

Availability and changes

We work hard to keep Recess Chat running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change, suspend or discontinue features. If we end the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice to community owners so they can export their member list.

Ending your use

You can stop using Recess Chat at any time and ask us to delete your account. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or create risk for other users.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost data, or lost profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or EUR 50 if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Consumer rights under your local mandatory law still apply.
